Safety Partnership
Safety isn’t just regulatory compliance—it’s fundamental to how we’ve operated since 1911. We maintain rigorous standards, work closely with federal regulators, and partner with tenants to ensure every operation meets the highest safety protocols.
We takes great care to protect our employees and make safety a primary consideration in our workplace culture. We need your full partnership in extending this commitment to your facility, your employees, and your rail operations.
Right of Entry & Temporary Use
If your operations require access to MET railroad property, you’ll need to complete a License for Right-of-Entry and Use of Premises.
Insurance Requirements
All companies performing work on MET property or operating on our behalf must provide a current Certificate of Insurance naming Beard Land and Investment Co. and its subsidiaries (Beard Land Improvement Company and Modesto and Empire Traction Company) as Additional Named Insured.
Required Coverage:
- Comprehensive General Liability: $2,000,000 per occurrence / $6,000,000 aggregate
- Railroad Protective Liability (for work within 50 feet of track): $5,000,000 per occurrence / $10,000,000 aggregate
- Comprehensive Automobile Liability: $1,000,000 Combined Single Limit
- Worker’s Compensation as required by state law

MET Railroad operates under the safety standards established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
FRA’s Office of Railroad Safety promotes and regulates safety throughout the nation’s railroad industry through compliance and enforcement in five key disciplines:
- Hazardous Materials
- Motive Power and Equipment
- Operating Practices
- Track
- Signal and Train Control
FRA maintains a staff of 400 federal safety inspectors operating from nine regional offices to ensure compliance across the industry.
